Protecting Our Children Training May 4
At 9:00 am on Saturday, May 4 Central Presbyterian will offer a training workshop on how to keep our precious children safe at church. This training is mandatory for all church employees who come into contact with children on the job. All volunteers that teach Sunday School, help with youth group or Parents’ Night Out and in other children/youth activities are strongly encouraged to attend. We also will welcome any parents and members of the church at large who wish to participate.
Rev. Mike Riggins and Christian Educator Cheryl Moles will lead this training. We will review our church’s child-care and other policies, offer walk-around teaching on our various evacuation plans (severe weather, human threat, etc.), share what we hope you might consider telling your children about what they can do to protect themselves, equip our staff to recognize “Groomers” and more.
This is a difficult and sensitive subject. But we absolutely must address it. Please consider joining us as we do. Childcare is provided.
(We will offer a second, identical workshop in late summer for those who cannot attend this one.)
The Mission Committee is collecting food items for Light House Mission in March and April. The food needs are: Corn, Green Beans, Peas, Applesauce, Baked Beans, Tomatoes (previous items in regular or commercial size cans), Beans, Pasta, Pasta Sauces, Corn Bread Mixes, Flour, Oatmeal, Sugar, Salt, Cereals. Please place your items in the grocery cart in Fellowship Hall.
A FIESTA LUNCH and DESSERT AUCTION will be held at 11:45 am on May 5. Free will donations will be accepted as this is a fundraiser for the youth group to help defray the costs of Presbyterian Youth Triennium this summer. Following the meal, the fun of a dessert auction will take place.
If you have a special dessert to add to the auction, please bring it that Sunday morning.
GRIEF SHARE Starting Wednesday, 5/8 and running for thirteen weeks, Central Presbyterian Church will offer the Grief Share program. Led by caring, trained people who have experienced grief themselves, this program will offer grief support from a Christian perspective. It has three components: a video seminar, a support group, and a take-home workbook to reinforce the whole process. Grief Share fits people who suffered loss quite recently and those who have carried their grief for a longer time. For more information please call the church office.
The Sunday School offering will purchase needed items for Pyoca Camp and Retreat Center. The offering will be received at the beginning of the Children’s Moment. Children should place their change in the bucket. Adult and youth classes should continue to give in their classrooms. Thank you for your generous donations.
Into Thin Air: A Journey to Everest and the High Passes of Nepal Sunday, June 2 at 9:30 am Come to a presentation by Josh Powers about his recent climb in Nepal, offering reflections on the experience through his talk, photographs, video clips, equipment samples, and other items. He will also share insights on its spiritual and emotional impact, the former through what he learned from the people of Nepal and the breathtaking beauty of the high Himalaya and the latter as a result of his climbing partner requiring a helicopter evacuation from high altitude sickness (fyi – she is now fine). SAVE THE DATE!
“The Water of Life” Vacation Bible School will be June 17-21 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. We are again joining with St. Stephen’s, Centenary United Methodist, and Trinity Lutheran Churches to bring summer fun and Biblical education to our children age 4 to rising 5th graders. Adult and youth leaders are needed for one or more days. Please talk to Cheryl Moles to find out how you can help. We will soon be sharing a list of needed donations.
