CPC e-news for May 22, 2020

Memorial Day - Last Monday of May - USA Holiday - CalendarLabs

REOPENING THE CHURCH
You have received an email with information about the process to begin in person worship. A task force has been formed to begin immediately on how best to bring our congregation together for worship with a target date of June 14. This will be done in phases with the safety of everyone’s health as the priority. Your prayers, patience and understanding are coveted. Even though the community is missed, worshiping God and serving and loving one another continues.

WORSHIP INFORMATION
Specific information on accessing our weekly online worship comes by email or facebook each week. Thank you to the Worship Commission and the many that are involved in creating our remote worship.

FAREWELL AND APPRECIATION TO CONNOR SCANLON
As many of you know, Connor’s time as our youth director is coming to an end after guiding our youth since 2015. A full time position at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility limits the time that could be given to the youth job.  Normally, the churches and Youth Design Team would host some sort of fellowship time to give Connor a proper farewell, but these are unusual times that we are living in right now. Therefore, we invite you to join us on Sunday, the 24th of May, between 7 and 8 pm to pop by Kendra, Connor, and Parker’s house to drop off notes of appreciation for Connor’s stint with our youth. You may say hello from the front yard with proper physical distancing. We also invite you to include a gift card to a local restaurant or ice cream shop for the Scanlons to enjoy.

We are disappointed that there cannot be better closure between Connor and the youth. We ask God’s blessings on the Scanlon family and are thankful that our friendships will continue.
Date: Sunday, 24 May
Time: anytime between 7:00 – 8:00 pm (no later)
Location: 900 E Talisman Dr, Terre Haute, IN 47802

Sincerely,
The Youth Design Team
Centenary United Methodist Church, Central Presbyterian Church, Unity Presbyterian Church

God, from my youth you have taught me.

A gift to the Pentecost Offering helps the church encourage, develop, and support its young people, and also address the needs of at-risk children. 40% of the Pentecost offering can be retained by individual congregations wanting to make an impact in the lives of young people within their own community. The remaining 60% is used to support children-at-risk, youth, and young adults through ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency. Your gifts to the Pentecost Offering are used for Kids Hope and other youth related mission work within CPC as well as assist our youth to attend Presbyterian Youth Triennium and support the Young Adult Volunteers. The offering is received on May 31 or when you can get it in to the church office.

CONNECT AND PRAYER
Kelly Stinnett and Cheryl Moles are coordinating weekday Connect and Prayer sessions. These will alternate weeks on Tuesday mornings and Thursday nights in order for the most people to get a chance to connect with each other at a time of day that works best for them. The link to join will come by email the day before each event or can be found on the CPC Facebook Group. The time will include a devotion, check-in for each person present with any prayer needs and time to pray together. Everyone is welcome to join! These are in addition to the 4th Sunday prayer time.
Upcoming dates are: Thursdays, May 28 and June 11 from 11:00AM – Noon
Tuesdays, June 2 from 8:00-9:00PM.

GRADUATION CELEBRATION – MAY 31 AT 6:00 PM AT CPC
We typically would honor our graduates during a worship service but as we are not able to do that, you are invited to join a celebration parade for the 5 graduates from the 7th Cents Youth Group (Caroline Christ, Peter Christ, Matthew Ford, Samuel Ford, Jadelyn Johnson). The graduates and their parents will be in the parking lot outside the church on May 31 at 6 pm to receive your drive by waves and cheers! We will have a collection box for cards. (This date may be changed if required by weather.) We will also bless them with our prayers during the summer before they leave for college. DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS TO PREVENT A BACK-UP ON 7TH STREET – Use 7th Street or 8th Street to go to Eagle Street between St. Stephens and Centenary. Turn south in the alley behind St. Stephen’s and cross Larry Bird St slowly into the parking area beside Central. The graduates will be near the median in the parking lot. Exit carefully on to 7th Street.

The church office is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sarah Kelsheimer and Pastor Riggins are in. It is recommended to call ahead if you have a need.
Cheryl Moles is working from home but is available by phone and email.

The Seven Cents Youth Group, which is composed of Centenary United Methodist Church, Central Presbyterian Church and Unity Presbyterian Church, is seeking a new Youth Director. Connor Scanlon, our current Youth director, is stepping down from the position for personal reasons. Interested persons can contact the pastor of one of the three churches to get a job description. If you are interested in applying, you can submit a cover letter, resume that includes 3 references, a statement of your faith and your vision for the youth group to one of the three pastors. Deadline for applications is May 31, 2020.

Elder Scott Racop coordinates a study for all adults: Bible Study and Beer. This a virtual gathering meeting via an online service at 7:30 every Wednesday evening. Interested? Contact Scott at racoplaw@aol.com and he’ll send you an invitation to join!

The CPC Deacons are reaching out to all members of the church family and are standing by to assist with any needs. We thank them for being our shepherds. Call Mike Riggins or Kay Farmer if you need help in any way.

Let is prayer together morning and evening
Morning
Lord,
how great a fire You can kindle from a tiny spark,
how great a tree You can grow from a tiny seed ….
My soul is so cold that by itself it has no joy,
yet You can light the fire of a heavenly joy within me.
My soul is so feeble that by itself it has no faith;
yet by Your power my faith grows to a great height.
Thank You for prayer, for love, for joy, for faith;
let me always be prayerful, loving, joyful, and faithful.
Amen
— Guido the Carthusian (1140-1193)

Evening
Bestow on me, O Lord,
a genial spirit and unwearied forbearance,
a mild, loving, patient heart,
kindly looks, pleasant, cordial speech and manner
that I may give offense to none,
but, as much as in me lies,
live in charity with all.
Amen
— Johann Arndt (1555-1621)

Happy Birthday to: Cody Scherb 5/30
