A Congregational Meeting has been called for Sunday, March 5 to approve an addition to the by-laws of Central Presbyterian Church.

Article XI
Board of Deacons

SECTION 1.  Membership. The Board of Deacons will consist of fifteen Deacons in three equal classes and pastor as ex officio.  The Board will meet at least quarterly and quorum shall consist of one third of the active members

SECTION 2.  Board Officers. The Deacons will elect a Moderator, Vice‐Moderator, and Secretary, who will serve for one year or until successors are elected and installed.

SECTION 3.  Duties.  The Deacons’ ministry “as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress.” (G-2.0201)  In addition, the Board of Deacons shall develop and maintain a handbook to describe details of responsibilities beyond those specified in the Book of Order, organization, committees, and other information pertinent to their ministry. This document is subject to Session concurrence.

On Communion Sunday members are asked to make a voluntary contribution to aid the distressed and afflicted of our community.  Please consider a gift, using the Deacons’ Fund pew envelopes.   The Deacons use the funds to provide bereavement meals, vouchers for utility bills, holiday food baskets and others ways to help the church family and the community.

Building construction has begun!  The north and south stained glass windows are out. Worship will be in fellowship hall beginning March 5 for Sunday worship. A construction trailer is in the parking lot and all spots will be blocked off except handicap.

The annual Lenten Series will be each Sunday evening March 5 through April 2. Supper will be served from 5:15 – 6:00 pm followed by worship and classes. There will be classes for adults, youth and children and childcare for younger children.  Adults will have a class led by Rev. Kevin Buchanan to study the scriptures for the upcoming Sunday lectionary. Youth will have study and activities led by Connor Scanlon. Elementary children (K-5th gr) will meet with Cheryl Moles to experience “40 Days in 40 Ways.” The Deacons will be serving pizza and salad for supper this week.
NOISY OFFERING on March 19 – Our Sunday School offering this year goes to the Yurt Project at Pyoca. A special offering will be taken to increase our giving to the project that will be a benefit to our summer campers. Please bring loose change to drop in buckets and let us hear the giving! Quiet offering is also accepted!
The annual Pyoca Family Retreat is April 21-23. Registration will begin soon for this fun event. All ages and abilities are welcomed.
