CPC e-news for July 8, 2016

On Communion Sundays members are asked to make a voluntary contribution to aid the distressed and afflicted of our community.  Please consider a gift, using the Deacons’ Fund pew envelopes.   The Deacons use the funds to provide bereavement meals, vouchers for utility bills, holiday food baskets and others ways to help the church family and the community.

ENTER THE TABERNACLE is the theme for summer Sunday School. There is one inter-generational class. All ages will learn and work together to discover how the design of the Old Testament tabernacle reflects God’s salvation plan and points to Jesus Christ. Gather in the Fellowship Hall classrooms at 9:30 am each Sunday, through August 7.
CI-CA will sponsor a 5th Sunday lunch  on July 31st, with a program given by Anna Tilstra-Smith on her attendance at General Assembly in Portland, OR.  Plan to share good food, and learn about our Presbytery through the eyes of our youth representative.
The Sharing Garden project is ready to begin!  Any surplus of herbs or vegetables are welcome!
Attention HS seniors and college students: Applications for the 2017/2018 Nancy and Dale McKee Family Scholarship for the benefit of a member of the Central Presbyterian Church is available at https://wvcfscholarships.communityforce.com/Login.aspx through August 22, 2016 at 2 pm.  You can only apply for this scholarship through the Wabash Valley Community Foundation during this time. Central does not accept applications or determine the recipient. The scholarship will be presented next May.

CHURCH LIBRARY NEWS – The Central Presbyterian Library collection is now available online to anyone with an internet connection!  Link to: https://www.librarycat.org/lib/THCentralPres. Similar to a Google search screeen, the library can be searched by title, author, subject or ISBN number. The search is not linked to circulation functions, so all books will show “available” even if they have been checked out, but it’s a handy way to see what books are in the collection! (Not all of the “call numbers” transferred over from the old system–they will be added in the coming weeks.) Please be patient as that work continues.

Check out procedures and materials for the library are on the table next to the adult library shelves in fellowship hall. The CN Library Subcommittee hopes that this will simplify the process and encourage the use of the adult and children’s section of our tremendous library.

MISSION GIVING – Non-perishable food items for the United Campus Ministries Food Pantry will be collected in July.

  • Habitat for Humanity House Build – July 9; 9am 2324 Arleth Street
    Spend a day (or part of) helping on a home build project. Persons of all skills and abilities welcome. Coordinator: Sala Adama
  • Meals on Wheels Ride Around – July 12; 10:30am – 12pm 300 S. 5th Street (Wabash Activity Center)
    Ride with a veteran volunteer & learn how this program helps the elderly, disabled, sick & homebound. Coordinator: Nancy Edgerton
  • Mollie Wheat Memorial Clinic – July 23; 8:30-1oam 1433 N. 6 ½ Street (Landsbaum Center)
    See the free clinic in action and learn about how this important medical facility meets health needs. Coordinator: Josh Powers
The Bazaar Crafters are collecting the “freebies”one can get at hotels. These “freebies” will be given to the Maternal Health Clinic to pass out to the mothers that visit them. There is a basket in the fellowship hall if you would like to contribute.
A FALL DINNER AND BAZAAR is scheduled for November 4th and 5th unless the building renovation begins sooner than anticipated.
Heart to Heart Hospice is in need of volunteers to read to patients, assist with letter writing, playing cards or games and/or office support. Please talk to Steve Mead to find out how you can help. 812-232-9220.

CPC is alive and well! We may not have a pastor, but we are not without leadership and care. The Session, Deacons, Commissions and staff are continuing the work of the church as they always have. Rev. Scott Paul-Bonham and others as selected by the Worship Commission are providing worship leadership and Rev. Linda Peters is doing pastoral care for the congregation. The Transitional Pastor Search Committee is at work. If you have any needs, please call the church office. In an emergency at night or on weekends, call Cheryl Moles (812-235-3646).
