CPC e-news for April 29, 2016

On Communion Sundays members are asked to make a voluntary contribution to aid the distressed and afflicted of our community.  Please consider a gift, using the Deacons’ Fund pew envelopes.   The Deacons use the funds to provide bereavement meals, vouchers for utility bills, holiday food baskets and others ways to help the church family and the community.

Donations to the United Campus Ministries Food Pantry are received on the first Sunday of each month. Please bring your non-perishable items and place them in the grocery cart in fellowship hall. Simple foods in small quantities are needed: peanut butter, crackers, snack foods, cereal, canned meats, vegetables and fruit, macaroni and cheese, etc.

The Communications Commission is collecting pictures for inclusion on the “Activity Pages” of our picture directory.  They are especially looking for pictures of: this Easter; the 2015 mission trip; the Fall Bazaar; Vacation Bible School; the 2015 picnic; Bike and Build; parents’ night out; and any other shots you might have of church life!  Please email digital photos to: admin@thcpc.org  (Our deadline for submitting photos to Lifetouch is May 7th, so the sooner the better!)
The Interim Pastor Search Committee has moved through two important steps in searching for our Transitional Pastor:  They presented (and Session approved) the “Ministry Information Form,” or “MIF.”  That’s the document that advertises our position to pastors searching for a congregation.  Following Session approval, the MIF went to the presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, who also approved it.  The next step (perhaps already accomplished by the time you read this) is to publish it digitally.  You can keep up with the Search Committee’s progress on the church website: https://www.thcpc.org/where-are-we/
CPC is alive and well! We may not have a pastor, but we are not without leadership and care. The Session, Deacons, Commissions and staff are continuing the work of the church as they always have. Rev. Scott Paul-Bonham and Rev. David Rosen are providing worship leadership and Rev. Linda Peters is doing pastoral care for the congregation. The Transitional Pastor Search Committee is at work. If you have any needs, please call the church office. In an emergency at night or on weekends, call Cheryl Moles (812-235-3646).

Thanks to all who came in for portrait sittings!  Our new church directory will be a valuable asset not just to our leadership, but to all of us in the pews as we continue to add new members.

For a variety of reasons, we missed about 35 families. We want to make sure these are added to the directory.  We’ve got about 3 weeks to submit them.  There are three ways to do so:

1.  Schedule an appointment with LifeTouch at Memorial United Methodist Church.  LifeTouch is taking portraits there from now into May.  You can sign up for an appointment by going to Memorial’s website: www.UMCMemorial.com and clicking the LifeTouch link.  (Or call our church office and Sarah will do it for you.)  When you check in at Memorial, be sure to tell them it’s for Central Presbyterian.  Our LifeTouch account number is 434051.
This is our preferred method!  We receive a picture directory for each sitting that LifeTouch does, but not for pictures that we add from other sources.  Additionally, we are charged for each portrait we add that LifeTouch didn’t take.
2.  Images Portrait Studio at 667 Wabash Ave has the same backdrop and will take makeup photos by appointment at their regular (very reasonable) rates.  They charge a $30 sitting fee which includes a CD of all shots taken.  There’s no obligation to buy prints, but if you want some, they’re $4.50 for 8X10s, $2.00 for 5X7s and $.32 for 4X6s.  Mic and LaRyssa Orman at Images are very good.
Phone Images at 812-236-6204 to make an appointment, then let Alan Harder copy your file from the CD; or
3.  Images will loan us the backdrop for a couple afternoons to do pictures at the church for anyone who isn’t able to get into their studio.  It won’t be available this Sunday (April 24th) but will be available for the two following Sundays.
If you weren’t able to get in for Lifetouch’s portrait sittings here or at Memorial Methodist, please make every effort to have a shot taken either at Images Studio or at church–the directory just won’t be the same without you!!

CPR training will be held at Central on Saturday, April 30 from 9:00 am to noon by the CPR Guru. Anyone that would like to learn or refresh their knowledge of this life saving skill is welcome. Certification can be received for a fee of $25. Observation to learn the techniques without certification can be done for free.

Applications for the Surrell Scholarship are due April 30. They will not be accepted after this date. Graduating Seniors and current college students, including non-traditional, who are part of the CPC family by membership or participation are welcome to apply for this book scholarship.  The church is blessed to have these funds to offer.

May 8 is Youth Sunday and high school and college graduates will be recognized. Please send your graduate’s information to the church office.
