THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Prayer for our Country from the Book of Common Worship

Almighty God, you have given us this good land as our heritage.
Make us always remember your generosity and constantly do your will.
Bless our land with honest industry, sound learning, and an honorable way of life.
Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance,
and from every evil way.
Make us who come from many nations with many different languages a united people.
Defend our liberties and give those whom we have entrusted with the authority of government
the spirit of wisdom, that there might be justice and peace in our land.
When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful;
and in troubled times, do not let our trust in you fail.
We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

On Communion Sundays members are asked to make a voluntary contribution to aid the distressed and afflicted of our community.  Please consider a gift, using the Deacons’ Fund pew envelopes.   The Deacons use the funds to provide bereavement meals, vouchers for utility bills, holiday food baskets and others ways to help the church family and the community.

The Mission Committee collects non-perishable food items for a local food pantry on the first Sunday of the month.  Place your donations in the grocery basket in Fellowship Hall.

Sunday School classes meet each week at 9:30 am. Preschool – room 108;  Elementary – room 202; Middle School and High School – room 201; Adults and Young Adults: Coffee and Conversation – FH classroom A; History of Christianity – FH classroom B; Christian Parenting – FH Classroom C.

The Sunday School offering is money for milk at 14th and Chestnut.  The Center is serving 100+ children plus 24 staff members.  They are using about 5 gallons a day.  Please give generously.  Sunday School Superintendent, Sandy Mead, is offering a challenge – if we get $35 (all classes) or more a week in offering, there will be a milkshake party each month! Thanks for your generous giving.

Buckhorn Adult Mission Trip departs on July 11th at 3pm. Items for donation requested anytime July 5-11. Pray for the 17 folks going and the value not only to the Buckhorn community but also to the CPC participants!

Life Skills Workshops will be held periodically to educate our youth on some basic skills in preparation for joining the workforce and/or living on their own.  On July 22 and 29, all youth (rising 6th – 12th grade) and anyone else that is interested are invited to come to the church from 6:00 – 7:00 pm to learn about money responsibility and banking skills.   Thanks to Murray Pate for assisting with the leadership.  Please RSVP to Cheryl Moles.  This is held the same time as Story Time so the younger children and older children have activities at the same time.

Attention Crafters and those that enjoy fellowship – There is a crafting session for the Fall Bazaar on Wednesday, July 9  from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Women’s Book Club will meet on Thursday, July 10 at 7:00 pm to discuss Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver.

VBS leaders

Thank you to these adults and others that provided the leadership for Vacation Bible School. It can only be done with willing and helping hands!  The young woman in the center is Brianna Stewart.  She played the role of “Sam”, the assistant to Dr. Wow in a video that we watched each day.  Brianna and her family live in Terre Haute, and she graciously paid a personal visit to our VBS.  It was quite exciting to have her with us.   Thank you to Donna Paul-Bonham and Julie Haan for making the connection and introducing “Sam” to us.
