invisible Central Presbyterian Church is a congregation of Christians of all ages.  We are part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) denomination and part of the worldwide body of Reformed Churches.

We are a community of believers called by God
     - To grow in the knowledge and teaching of Christ
     - To share the love of Christ with all, and
     - To respond with compassion to the needs of our changing world.

As a congregation we strive to be inclusive.  Our presence in Terre Haute began in the 1820’s.  We continue to serve the community nearly two centuries later.

Our Church handbook (2010) explains much about our church.

Worship
The worship of God is the center of our community life.  We meet every Sunday morning at 10:30 AM in our sanctuary to sing, pray, and hear the word proclaimed.

Music
Our music program is stronger than ever!  Our church choir, which sings every Sunday, September through May, rehearses Sunday mornings at 8:45 AM.  New singers are always welcome!  Dr. Mark Carlisle, a member of the music faculty at Indiana State University, is our choir director.

Our magnificent organist, Gary Jenkins, who also serves as Dean of the Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, coordinates our Alfred R. Schmidt Concert Series.

Christian Education
Our Christian Education program is coordinated by our Christian Nurture Committee, with the support of our Christian Educator, Cheryl Moles.

Church school for all ages is held each Sunday morning at 9:30 AM.  Highlights of our current year include preschool and elementary classes, a 6th – 9th grade Confirmation class, high school discussion class, the Coffee and Conservation Class for adults, Bible Study for adults, and a Korean ESL Bible Study on Mark.

Periodic mid-week series are held, usually in the fall and during Lent.  These events feature a meal, worship, and classes for all ages.

Fellowship Opportunities
Children: Kids have blast at Central!  From the nursery for our youngest children (which welcomes babies from infancy through preschool), up to church school and elementary youth group for our older kids, there are many opportunities for those age 0 through 5th grade.

Youth: Our church does cooperative youth ministry with our sister church, Centenary United Methodist Church.  The theme of the year is Sabbath and we hope to give the youth an opportunity for rest from their hectic schedules while enjoying the fun and fellowship of youth group activities. The youth are looking forward to a mission trip to Kentucky next summer.

College and Young Adults: A time of fellowship (and usually a good meal) for the 18 – 30 age group is enjoyed on the first Sunday of each month.

Presbyterian Women: Our PW group is very active in community projects.  The "Presbyterian Monday Stitchers" meet each Monday morning at the church to make stuffed animals for CODA and to work on other mission work.

Seekers and Searchers: All women interested in gathering for fellowship, care, prayer, and study are welcome to attend this monthly event.  This year's study is Above and Beyond: Hearing God's Call in Jonah and Ruth by Carol M. Bechtel.

Women's Book Club: This group has book discussions on the first Thursday of each month.

Ladies' Day/Night Out: Monthly fellowship opportunities for women of all ages.

Adults: The "Salt Shakers" provide fellowship opportunities for couples and singles, college age through the Baby Boomers generation.

Older Adults: "Celebrating Life" group meets every month at the church.  This highly successful fellowship group for the 65+ crowd has a wide variety of presentations.

5th Sunday Lunch: Each month that has a 5th Sunday is an opportunity for a carry-in lunch following worship and usually includes a program highlighting special ministry projects involving a person or group from Central.

The Library
We are especially proud of our library, which has an extensive collection of fiction, non-fiction, and reference books.  The library also houses our historical archives.

The Church Office
Our church office is open 5 days a week from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
