The John Chironna Day Nursery School , structured as a preschool, is a community mission project. Its purpose is to help meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of children from low income families. Its objective is to provide kindergarten preparation through an enrichment program focusing on basic skills, education, health and nutrition, and field trips. The preschool is provided free of cost. The program is designed for ten children. Class is in session from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday. A nutritious mid-morning snack is provided. School usually starts the second week of September and ends the second week of May. Limited transportation is provided. The class is taught by a teacher certified in early childhood education, who provides a variety of age appropriate activities that offer cognitive, social and motor skilled development in a Christian environment. Church members serve as rotation volunteer classroom assistants. The preschool program admits students of any race, nationality, religion, or ethnic origin. There is no discrimination in the administration of education, or the admission policies. The following criteria are used in determining eligibility for the program: 1. The child must have reached the age of four no later than August 1 (prior to the beginning of the school year). 2. The child must reside within a five mile radius of the church if using the provided transportation. 3. The family must be considered low income. The gross income chart issued by the State Food Stamp Office is used as a guideline. Application forms are available by contacting the coordinator, Mrs. Abby Simmons, through the church office (232-5049) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. |
